SSP Partnering Local Communities in Celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity, Driving Ecosystem Restoration Towards Sustainability

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Sermsang Power Corporation Public Company Limited (SSP) reinforced its commitment to integrating environmental stewardship into its business operations. The company hosted an open house at the Sermsang Palangngan (SPN) Solar Power Plant in Lopburi province, welcoming the Community and Environmental Committee for a site visit and a joint tree-planting activity. This initiative was organized to celebrate and raise awareness in observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity.

Aligning with the 2026 Global Theme: "Acting Locally for Global Impact"

The 2026 International Day for Biological Diversity announced its campaign theme as "Acting locally for global impact." SSP Group has tangibly integrated this concept into its corporate vision, demonstrating that collaborating with the local community to restore ecosystems and create a "Safe Haven" for wildlife in Lopburi not only yields local benefits but also serves as a crucial foundation for biodiversity recovery and climate change mitigation on a global scale.

Driving the "POWERING a GREENER SSP FORESTRY" Strategy. This activity operates under the umbrella of the SSP Green Space Restoration and Enrichment Project, which holds the ultimate goal of promoting, developing, and expanding green spaces within the Group "towards sustainable, eco-friendly growth" through key strategic dimensions:

  • Green Space Expansion: Focusing on increasing tree planting in the surrounding areas of the power plant facilities.
  • Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Restoration: Promoting the planting of native tree species to support the ecosystem. Plant species are strategically selected based on recommendations from the provincial seedling nursery station of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to ensure ecological suitability, maximize benefits, align with the local terrain, and prevent future risks from invasive alien species. This is conducted in parallel with wildlife population monitoring to maintain ecological balance.
  • Sustainable Land Use and Responsible Forestry Management: Enforcing land management guidelines that prevent deforestation, implementing soil rehabilitation and water conservation through reforestation projects, and selecting environmentally friendly materials for the Company's construction projects.
  • Community Engagement and Environmental Education: Integrating collaboration with schools, community groups, suppliers, and business partners to co-organize tree-planting activities. Furthermore, the company provides training for employees and the community on sustainable forest conservation guidelines, fostering awareness to reduce the severity of climate change impacts. The Company also plans to establish a "Green Ambassador" program to act as representatives in communicating and tangibly fostering environmental awareness.

Open House Project Visit and Integration of Community Collaboration

The success of environmental conservation according to global frameworks requires active stakeholder participation. For this activity, the Company hosted an open house to welcome visitors to the power plant and participate in the tree-planting event. The initiative received excellent feedback and integrated cooperation from 17 participants, comprising executives and representatives from the Wang Khon Khwang Subdistrict Administrative Organization, the Director of Ban Wang Khon Khwang School, community leaders, village headmen, assistant village headmen, as well as the Group's personnel.

Allowing the community to visit the project and engage in joint on-site operations goes beyond merely increasing green spaces (Buffer Zones) to create natural barriers around the project. It serves as a vital mechanism for enhancing operational transparency, strengthening community relations, and providing opportunities for local communities to learn about the clean energy production process while co-developing the area sustainably.

Advancing Towards a Sustainable Future under the "Nature Positive" Concept

The strategic goal of expanding green spaces around the project is to enlarge safe habitats and food sources for wildlife. This is particularly evidenced by the significant increase in the avian population, rising from 18 to 31 species, totaling 785 birds, which the SSP GREEN HAVEN project has continuously surveyed and monitored. This site visit and joint reforestation activity with the community reaffirm SSP’s strong commitment to elevating its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) operational standards. SSP firmly believes that ecosystem restoration will lead to an "Ecological Rebalancing," serving as a fundamental pillar for the mutually beneficial and sustainable growth of the business sector, communities, and biodiversity.
