Cap to Craft Project Keychain Workshop in Celebration of Global Recycling Day 2026

In recognition of Global Recycling Day, observed annually on 18 March, Sermsang Power Corporation Public Company Limited (SSP) organized the Keychain Workshop under Cap to Craft project to promote awareness of sustainable resource management and encourage employee participation in reducing plastic waste within the organization.

Global Recycling Day is an international initiative established by the Global Recycling Foundation to highlight the importance of recycling in preserving natural resources and supporting the transition toward a circular economy. The 2026 campaign theme, “Don’t Think Waste. Think Opportunity!”, encourages individuals and organizations to reconsider waste as a valuable resource and explore innovative ways to transform discarded materials into new opportunities.

Aligned with this global initiative, SSP organized the Keychain Workshop under Cap to Craft project, which introduced employees to the concept of upcycling by transforming used plastic bottle caps into creative handmade keychains. Participants learned the process of sorting materials, preparing plastic caps, and designing their own products, demonstrating how discarded materials can be repurposed into new items with added value. Notably, each letter used in the keychain design requires approximately 6–8 plastic bottle caps, illustrating the potential of converting plastic waste into useful products while reducing waste that may otherwise enter disposal streams.

The activity was officially opened by Mr. Prawut Srimanotham, Director of Business Development, who shared insights on systematic waste management and the importance of waste segregation within the organization. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Mirr.Crab, an organization specializing in plastic recycling and upcycling initiatives.

"A total of 50 participants, comprising employees and their families from various departments, took part in the activity. The event was conducted in two sessions in the morning and afternoon to ensure that all participants could thoroughly engage in both the learning segments and the hands-on practice.

As a tangible result of this initiative, we successfully diverted 2,000 discarded plastic bottle caps from the waste stream, weighing approximately 2 kilograms, for upcycling.

Following the activity, 27 participants completed the satisfaction survey, representing 54% of the total attendees. The evaluation yielded an exceptional satisfaction score of 4.9 out of 5 (or 98%), reflecting the strong interest and active engagement of our employees toward the organization’s environmental initiatives.

"This initiative aligns with the Group’s '3P Sustainability Strategy' under the 'SERM: Preserving Environment' pillar, which emphasizes efficient resource utilization and responsible waste management. The activity directly contributes to the Company’s sustainability goals of reducing non-hazardous waste generation by at least 10% and increasing the recycling rate through the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to at least 80% of total waste by 2030."

Through initiatives such as the Keychain Workshop under Cap to Craft project, SSP continues to strengthen employee engagement in environmental stewardship, promote responsible resource use, and support the development of a sustainability-driven corporate culture, contributing to long-term positive environmental outcomes.
