Biodiversity Conservation Project: "SSP GREEN HAVEN: Protecting Life, Preserving Nature"
Share:
Implemented by subsidiary Sermsang Energy Company Limited (SPN) in Khok Samrong District, Lop Buri Province, this project aims to ensure the Group's energy projects coexist harmoniously with ecosystems, focusing on wildlife protection, biodiversity conservation, and natural habitat restoration to create a sustainable environment through the strategy: "POWERING a GREENER for BIODIVERSITY."
Habitat Conservation and Green Area Expansion Maintaining and expanding green areas around power plants as habitats for birds and wildlife, including supporting reforestation and native plant restoration projects to enhance biodiversity, protect and improve natural habitats to reduce impacts from project development.
Native Animal Protection and Biodiversity Monitoring Conducting biodiversity surveys before and during project development to minimize environmental impacts, and establishing animal population monitoring programs in the area, such as Plain Prinia, Little Cormorant, and Red Junglefowl, as well as complying with wildlife protection laws and ensuring bird nesting sites and animal breeding grounds are not destroyed.
Environmentally Friendly Energy Project Development Strictly adhering to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA & IEE) guidelines, including designing projects in line with wildlife migration routes and spawning grounds, and using sustainable land-use practices to reduce impacts from deforestation and soil degradation.
Community Engagement and Conservation Awareness Strengthening cooperation with communities, supporting community-led conservation projects to raise environmental awareness, wildlife protection projects (no hunting in conservation areas), and community-level reforestation activities, as well as encouraging employees and stakeholders to participate in green projects through tree planting volunteer activities, wildlife conservation projects, and sustainable land management.
Operating Results:
Sermsang Power has created a thriving natural environment within and around its power plants, which supports local wildlife and migratory birds through green area expansion, compliance with wildlife protection laws, and ecological impact assessments.
The Group demonstrates its role as a responsible renewable energy producer that prioritizes biodiversity conservation to be a nature-friendly renewable energy company committed to sustainability and biodiversity, enabling balanced coexistence between clean energy development. Details of operating results are as follows:
Expansion of Green Areas Around Power Plants The Group has efficiently maintained and expanded green areas around power plants, making the environment suitable for wildlife. These green areas have become safe havens for migratory birds and local animals, promoting local biodiversity.
Protection of Plain Prinia and Other Wildlife More than 200-300 Plain Prinias were found inhabiting and nesting around the area, indicating the positive results of conservation efforts by preserving existing bird nests even after the migration season to ensure their habitats are not affected. Other bird species such as Little Cormorants (50-100 individuals) and Red Junglefowl (5-10 individuals) were also observed in the area, showing a healthy ecosystem.
Compliance with Wildlife Protection Laws As the Plain Prinia is a protected wildlife species under the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act B.E. 2535, strict adherence to legal requirements is prioritized. The Group prevents the destruction of bird nests, prohibits disturbance, and maintains safe habitats to ensure the Group's operations comply with ethical and legal conservation principles.
Biodiversity Impact Assessment in Japan Projects The Group conducts ecosystem surveys before project development in Japan to assess the types and density of living organisms quarterly. If rare or endangered animals are found, the Group implements relocation measures or minimizes impacts on wildlife. If endangered animals cannot be relocated, the Group will not proceed with projects in those areas, demonstrating environmental responsibility.
Long-Term Commitment to Ecosystem and Biodiversity Conservation The Group aims to maintain and increase forest areas around power plants to enhance ecological diversity and serve as wildlife habitats by monitoring the migration and breeding behavior of wildlife in each season to adjust conservation strategies for greater effectiveness, including future plans for additional tree planting, forest restoration, and collaboration with communities in environmental campaigns.
